| Abstract | In multimedia DBMS, continuous media operations require constrained accesses to the storage system, which can vary unpredictably across users and application programs. To support real-time applications for continuous media, the storage system has to schedule the reservation of resources exclusively to guarantee time-dependent real-time retrieval, such as display. In addition, the system should provide seamless change of Quality-of-Services in a \real-time session." Real-time sessions consist of multiple real-time operations on continuous media (i.e., display , forward retrieval, backward retrieval), and provide unaaected transitions between those operations. This paper describes a storage system for concurrent continuous media accesses and scheduling algorithms which guarantee that rejecting the transition of operations will never occur during execution of manipulation operations for continuous media. |
