| Abstract | Cancer, or in medical terms malignant neoplasm, identifies a wide range of diseases, all of which involve unregulated cell growth.Pathologists grade the tissue samples based on the deviation of the cell structures from normal tissues.A cell that divides itself into two daughter cells with the same chromosomes undergoes a process of mitosis.Mitotic count is one of the most prominent factors in determining the severity of cancer in the person. The three main modules in this proposed system is 1.Image pre-processing2.Mitotic cell candidate detection and segmentation 3.Mitotic cell candidate classification. Image pre-processing involves the usage of harmonic filterin green and blue channel and morphological reconstruction is used for image enhancement, component wise thresholding is used for segmenting the image. Classification of the image is done by using neural network, which is done after feature extraction. Here, the emphasis is given to the cells at the periphery of the tumour, where cells actively proliferate than at the centre. This reduces the number of slides to be studied to analyse the condition of the patient. |
