| Abstract | In this study we made a first step towards a map of amphibian breeding-habitat distribution in the Csík Mountains. We recorded amphibian species and made estimations of population size using spawn counts and breeding adult counts on an approximately 100 km2 area between 660 and 1500 m altitude above sea level. Nine species and seven sites with an outstanding abundance of amphibians were recorded. We propose the term Important Amphibian Areas and discuss criteria for this title. |
