| Abstract | Indigenous peoples and tribal communities have at their disposal international treaties and national mechanisms to protect their self-determination, identities and ways of life. However, their rights and existence are constantly threatened by capitalist projects of space occupation and exploitation of nature. This study will observe, especially, how, in the case of the construction of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant, the Brazilian authorities and the IACHR have been positioned against such threats. Whether they endorse the "invisibility" and/or the transgression of these rights, or require their applicability. |
