| Abstract | With the recognition of health as a right of all by the 1988 Constitution the right of pharmaceutical care by the Unified Health System are recognized as part of this new policy , ie , the provision of free medicines. In Health System pharmaceutical care is organized by three components: the Basic Component of Pharmaceutical Services, the Strategic Component of Pharmaceutical Care and Specialized Program for Pharmaceutical Assistance organized as a means of access to medicines by the population . The methodology is mainly based on the comparison of costs of osteoporosis treatment with the drugs available under the Health System through the components of the Pharmaceutical Assistance to the drug teriparatide considered new technology for the treatment. Factory price or the maximum selling price to the government approved by the Board of Adjustment of Drug Market was used . Teriparatide is currently considered as a new treatment for osteoporosis , a disease considered a major worldwide public health problems due to individual effects (mortality , morbidity , functional disability ) and social (reduction in workforce , increased risk of institutionalization , economic burden ) . As the adoption of a new technology in health budget impact has no need for studies of cost effectiveness, cost benefit and cost -utility . Study of Values held by this study concluded that the incorporation of the drug teriparatide for osteoporosis treatment is not economically viable for the Brazilian Unified Health System . |
