| Abstract | espanolEn los anos cuarenta los problemas para la operacion y el mantenimiento del transporte en el Distrito Federal eran muy severos, debido fundamentalmente al crecimiento poblacional y a los efectos del conflicto belico. Esta situacion evidencio la confrontacion entre los intereses particulares o privados y el interes general o publico y obligo al Estado a intervenir para regular y dirimir los conflictos derivados de esta contradiccion. El objetivo de este articulo es reconstruir el proceso y los conflictos que llevaron a la estatizacion del servicio de tranvias, analizando la intervencion estatal y, en general, el papel de los diversos actores en la definicion y resolucion del problema. EnglishIn the 1940s, the operation and maintenance of transportation in Mexico City's Federal District were plagued by severe problems mainly because of population growth and the effects of the war. This brought out the confrontation between private interests and the general or public interest and forced the state to intervene to regulate and solve the conflicts arising out of this contradiction. The aim of this article is to reconstruct the process and the conflicts that led to streetcars becoming publicly owned, analyzing state intervention and in general the role of the different actors in defining and solving the problem. |
