Abstract	The maximum impact of oil on bird fauna was recorded at the beaches of Clifton where Tasman Spirit Oil Spill (TSOS) took place. After the disaster, its crude oil spread over the feeding grounds of birds. The low bird diversity at Clifton was recorded. Most adverse effects were observed along the beaches of Clifton, Sea View and adjoining areas. Concentrations of polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons were recorded from fresh dead specimens.
