| Abstract | This study was focuse d on coconut leaves as an alte rnative adsorbe nt for the removal of Ni(II) from waste water. Batch e xperime nts we re conducte d at room te mperature 27 0 C to de te rmine the factors affecting adsorption of Ni(II). The adsorption process is affecte d by various parame ters such as contact time , solution pH, adsorbent dose and initial conce ntration. The maximum removal e fficie ncy of Ni(II) was 93.18% for 2.0g/50ml of coconut leaves at pH 8.0 in optimum time of 4 hours. The e xpe rimental data was teste d using Langmuir and Fre undlich equations. The data fitte d we ll to both Langmuir and Fre undlich isotherms. The adsorption kine tics we re best describe d by the pse udo second orde r mode l. The cost of removal is e xpe cte d to be quite low, as the adsorbe nt is cheap and easily available in large quantities. The present study showe d that coconut leaves was capable of removing Ni(II) from aqueous solution. |
