| Abstract | Currently is very common to find internal combustion engines applied in mechanized systems. In forestry activities there are many examples, such as the forwarder, the chainsaw and brushcutter equipped with a rigid metal blade. The purpose of this paper was to select homogeneous groups of workers in a forestry company to assess the conditions of occupational exposure to noise. Three noise dosimetry were performed in different occupations and the results were compared with regulations valid in Brazil. In all tests Threshold Limit Value (TLV) was exceeded – 85 dB(A) for a eight hours workday. The most serious case was detected in chainsaw operator: Threshold Limit Value-Ceiling (TLV-C) reached 115 dB(A) peak level. All groups of workers assessed were exposed to not recommended noise levels. To minimize workers exposure and protect human health from dangerous noises is necessary to implement a set of actions in the forestry company including: inspection of machinery for conservation and maintenance, installation of enclosed cabin type in forwarder and Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) verification of hearing protectors. |
