| Abstract | The purpose of this dissertation is to study the perception of the individual decision-making process under the influence of national culture and decisional experience. The choice of this subject is justified by the process of globalization of the world's economy, with people of different countries interacting in cooperative ways and business activities being developed in a world-wide basis. In this context, to understand how individuals act, how they behave and decide, may bring useful informations to subsidize these types of interaction. The research questions can be summarized as follows: (1) apart from national culture, or the level of individual decisional experience, is it possible to identify common fators (steps, principles) regarding the way people perceive the individual decision process, especially when Simon's (1947) "limited rationality" model of decision process is taken as a reference model? (2) How does culture act as a differentiation factor in the perception of the individual decision-making process? (3) How does the prior decisional experience of people influence the way they perceive the individual decision-making process? To answer these three questions, the main purpose of the dissertation is to identify the individual's awareness about the decision process, verifying how culture and decisional experience influence this perception. The methodology used was the survey (the unit analysed was the individual). A comparative study between Brazil, France and the United States was conducted. The data-collection was made by using a group of five instruments of quanti and qualitative nature, with a sample of 285 persons (approximately 100 persons per country). The results prove, in several aspects, the influence of culture and past experience on the perception of the individual decision-making process. Decisional profiles were drawn for each of the countries involved, aiming to provide a reference to researchers and other parties interested in this subject. |
