| Abstract | This paper presents and discusses the results of an Extension Project, linked to the New Talents Program of the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES), developed at the Federal University of Pampa (UNIPAMPA), at the campus of Caçapava do Sul/RS. Its main objective was the encouragement of students and teachers of the Basic Education of that municipality in what refers to the scientific investigation of environmental impact on their water resources. Monthly meetings were held with theoretical and experimental activities, carried out in the Chemistry laboratory of the University and in field activities, in streams of this municipality and in the region of the Minas do Camaqua. Based on theoretical contributions in Scientific Literacy and experimentation, under the scope of educational technologies characterizing as strategies of favoring the processes of teaching and learning in Sciences, from the considerations of teachers and students analyzed, it was verified that the activities have shown to be effective in acquiring scientific meanings, particularly in relation to the Chemistry, which is in line with the institutional extension policy of UNIPAMPA.
