| Abstract | The central laboratories of public health - LACEN make up a laboratory network for health monitoring, supporting the investigation actions, monitoring and controlling the diseases of the population by performing the fiscal analyses. Therefore, it is extremely important the implementation of the quality management system in these laboratories, and this action has been implemented in a joint work with Anvisa. The evaluation of twenty seven LACEN, at five regions of the country, was conducted by the team work of Anvisa, by a checklist application stated by the following items: laboratory infrastructure, human resources training and qualification, and quality management system status. The objective was to get an overview of LACEN. It was found that although the laboratories are in different stages of quality management system implementation, they have trained and skilled staff, and qualified equipments. Nevertheless, they need to incorporate a quality policy more effective and overcome some administrative barriers for improving the system. |
