| Abstract | The aim of this study was to analyze the prescripti on of antibiotics in the department of neonatology at the Mother and Child hospital of Tlemcen, focusi ng on the specificities of the neonatal population. Data were entered and analyzed using SPSS 17 softwa re between 1 November 2013 and 30 April 2014. The sample size was 238 newborns. The number of antibio tic prescriptions was 636. Data were collected usin g an appropriate questionnaire. This study reveals the strong prescription of antib io ics in infants less than 7 days (76,05 % of case s). Early onset infection was the most frequent (66,8%) inclu ding sepsis (44.5 %). Gentamicin with 34,6% was the most prescribed antibiotic. The average hospital st y was 11,47 days. Doses and durations of antibioti cs were almost consistent with the references. Each pr escription of antibiotics has been studied separate ly in order to better assess the adequacy of dosage with the rules of antibiotics prescription in the neonat al period. During this period, the cost of antibiotic treatmen t was 85 058, 93 dinars. Establishing protocols and decision trees and creat ion of a Committee for hospital used antibiotics sh ould provide a better rational antibiotics prescribing. |
