EnglishThe objective of this work is to analyze the use of leisure time by youths and adolescents, by participating or not, in extra-curricular activities at the end of the school day. In Extremadura, it is possible to elect the shape of the school day with formative complimentary activities which include school activities during the morning timetable and formative complimentary activities during the afternoon timetable. This issue creates a new concept of leisure time of school, with special emphasis on the practice of physical and sports activities, the increase of practice time, greater social interaction, especially with peers, etc. This involves a number of benefits for the scholar as a: increased physical activity, better self-awareness, increased interaction skills, etc. In this study have participated school children (n= 773) from the third year of primary school and the compulsory secondary school from different state schools in Badajoz and the provinces (50,12% female and 49,8% male). It was applied a questionnaire which was assessed by a group of experts and tested by the experimental group. The results indicate that participation in extracurricular activities is influenced by age and gender. Family socioeconomic status influences the choice of activities (organized and unorganized) of the school population and there is a close relationship between practice of free-time activity of students and their immediate families |
