| Abstract | It is hard to understand when the practice of Quantity Surveying (QS) actually began. Yet it is a profession with a long history in the construction industry. As any other profession QS too was subjected to many imputes and challenges which resulted in changing nature of the QS practice and has been capable of reinventing itself and to lead from the front. It is a profession in a persistent search for an identity from building economist to construction economist, to construction cost advisor, to construction consultant etc. The paper is primarily aimed at establishing a vision for the QS education in the 21 century from UK perspective by critically examining the current state of the profession and the challenges and demands exerted on the QS education and the profession. Diverse range of activities performed by Quantity Surveyor as a global player are identified and future requirements of QS education are highlighted from two different levels. Finally, the vision is established in terms of several attributes relating to QS education. |
