| Abstract | Despite advances in attention of cancer patients, infection is the main cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with neutropenia related to chemotherapy. Chemotherapy-induced neutropenia, coupled with immune system disorders, is considered the most important risk for infection development. Nurse staff has an active role in prevention and supportive care: long-term central lines installation and cleaning process, hygiene, emotional aspect and nutritional counseling, thus, it has to have the necessary tools for an objective analysis and to assess risk factor in an early phase to prevent, preserve and to give appropriate and specialized attention that will help diminish complications and improve quality of life in this group of patients. |
