| Abstract | The last decade has seen an explosion of social networking services that have been widely adopted by millions of users all over the world. Although the trend to be in close communication with others through Twitter, MySpace, Facebook and other social networking services has permeated higher education, not all faculty are ready to embrace the tools and practices of social networking. This article will present: (1) research on the use of social networking tools in e-learning environments; (2) a review of several popular social networking apps for mobile devices with educational applications; and (3) a description of how one instructor incorporates social networking tools in his graduate educational technology courses. |
