| Abstract | Tuberculosis is still a serious public health issue in the world, with great suffering and both social and economic expenses - mainly in developing countries - besides all the control strategies proclaimed by several technical boards. In Ribeirao Preto, a high number of diagnostics is made in the hospitals overall at “Hospital das Clinicas”, representing a detour for assistance. Through retrospective study we analised the epidemiologic profile for the cases of tuberculosis identified at the “Hospital das Clinicas” of Ribeirao Preto from 1993 to 1997,trying to signalise the demand relating to the cases complexity with the hierarchical degree of care. During the period 521 cases were notified, prevaling the ones from Ribeirao Preto (67,2%); 50,7% seroprevalence of HIV, pulmonary predominance (65,1%) and 58,7% of positive sputum smears. Analisyng the data we can conclude that the increase of reporting at “Hospital das Clinicas” was due the cases from Ribeirao Preto and association to HIV, and that the flux to tertiary reference would not be related with the complexity of them. |
