| Abstract | Anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Penz.) is one of the most important diseases that affect the avocado fruit and limit avocado fruit exportation. A non-destructive and indirect method was developed to estimate the area of avocado fruits cv. Hass to evaluate anthracnose severity. Length and width of 175 avocado fruits were measured. Avocado pulp and seed were extracted and the peel was outlined on paper, this was then cut out and passed through a foliar area integrator. A multiple linear regression model was applied with length and width of fruits as independent variables and the area obtained from the integrator as the dependent variable. The prediction model that best adjusted our data was the quadratic model Y = 0.181 + 0.849 X1 2 + 2.247 X2 2 ; where X 1 = length, and X 2 = width of avocado fruits based on the statistics R 2 a , Prob > F y C.V. To evaluate the model, the fruit area estimated with the model was plotted and compared with the actual fruit area measured with the integrator. The validation of the model gave a r 2 = 0.99. The estimated avocado fruit area was used to evaluate anthracnose severity of Hass avocado in Michoacan, Mexico. Spots caused by the pathogen were measured and the diseased area was related to the total fruit area calculated with the model. Anthracnose severity assessment was more accurate than the arbitrary scale used based on the percentage of damaged the total fruit area. The model is valid to calculate the fruit area of avocado cv.
