Vivendo com o Diabetes Mellitus: a experiência de sujeitos atendidos em uma unidade pública

Abstract	This research aimed at identifying the experiences and perceptions of a type2 diabetic group from an outpatient clinics public hospital. A qualitative research was conducted and a descriptive study has been done. Data was gathered by semi-open interviews. The patients ́ texts interviews were content analyzed through building thematic matrixes focusing on diagnostic and treatment experiences. Data indicated that the diagnostic is known when they are treating others diseases. Asymptomatic individuals identify the disease and its evolution when the symptoms are strong and its complications appear. Treatment, then, is made to avoid the diseases ́ complications. It should be recognized that although the medical treatment is the most used, they also make use of other kind of medicine. Changes in the diet are the most difficult for type2 diabetic, not only because it’s expensive, but also because of the necessity of preparing different meals for the family. Men’s etiology has appointed to work situations and have to do with their experiences out of home. Observing the women’s perspective, they identify the cause of their illness with events related to the domestic life. Key Words; Diabetes Mellitus, Chronic Disease, Treatment, Illness Experience
