| Abstract | This paper presents experimental data obtained on a possible innovative clay liner material in the form of fly ash-blended expansive clay. When expansive soils are stabilized with fly ash, hydraulic conductivity decreases. Swelling properties like free swell index (FSI) also decrease. The paper presents experimental data on LL and FSI of the expansive clay soil stabilized with fly ash at 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% by weight of the expansive soil. The solutions used for conducting these tests were deionised water and CaCl2 of 500mM concentration. Useful data were obtained which would be helpful in compatibility studies of the new barrier material. LL and FSI decreased with increasing fly ash content in the blend and solution concentration. Interesting correlation between LL and FSI for the salt solution concentration and the fly ash contents was also obtained. |
