| Abstract | Method engineering (ME) is the process of designing, constructing and merging methods and techniques to support information systems development (ISD). It has taken many forms and is as old as ISD itself, and yet still the basic problems of controlling the systems development process remain. Method engineering is often associated with the hierarchical and bureaucratic approaches of the 1980s. but even in its most recent forms, as tools and capabilities embedded within enterprise resource planning (ERP) system infrastructures, problems still persist. This paper reflects on the genealogy of method engineering and look to how it must evolve to meet the needs of contemporary IS development. |
