| Abstract | ABSTRACT Introduction: The prenatal care must be made by qualified health professionals to treat pregnant women, guaranteeing the best conditions of health both to mother and child, with the purpose to provide information about the pregnancy, labour, and delivery, so that the woman can be prepared for the childbirth. Objective: Evaluating if there is an agreement between the information provided throughout the prenatal and the practices applied during the labour and delivery at a maternity school from Sao Luis-MA. Methods: Quantity research of transverse section, retrospective, made with 189 puerperas from September to December 2016, with the application of form containing 66 questions. The data were analyzed by means of absolute and simple frequency and with the Chi-square test to find out possible associations (p<0,05) among the independent variables. Results: From the sample, 43,9 % were informed about the type of delivery; 70,9 % rupture of the amniotic sac; 75,7% and 82% respectively, contraction and pain; 29,1% received information about the nonpharmacological methods for relief of pain and feeding during labour. There was statistic association between the receipt of information on prenatal and the variables provided during labour, as contraction (p=0,023), pain (p=0,001), duration of labour (p=0,010), positions of childbirth (p=0,044), and breastfeeding (p=0,001). On the other hand, it was impossible to establish this statistic relation between non-pharmacological methods for relief of pain (p=1,000) and feeding during labour (p=0,764). Conclusion: It's concluded that after analysis from data there is real concordance both for the relation of orientations on prenatal and offering and application of the practices at the birth room, and a deficit of information transmitted about practices on labour and delivery. |
