| Abstract | AIM. Anemia is a common problem concerning all the countries of the world. The principal cause of anemia is the iron deficiency. The iron deficiency anemia has considerable consequences on the pregnant woman and also on her future child. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia among pregnant women. PATIENTS AND METHODS. This was a descriptive crosssectional study carried out from 2nd March to 8th May 2015 in the “Centre Hospitalier et Universitaire de Yaounde” (CHUY) in all the pregnant women coming for antenatal consultation in the external gynecology service of the hospital. The blood hemoglobin concentration was determined in a drop of blood by using hemoglobin meter and a blood sample (approximately 5 ml) was taken from pregnant women who had eaten nothing. Blood was collected in dry tubes for the determination of serum iron concentration in the laboratory. The softwares Microsoft Office Excel 2007 and Microsoft Office Excel 2010 was used for the data analysis. |
