Abstract	ABSTRACT The current national and international scene within the sector of sport and nature tourism, both in terms of knowledge and scientific production, or in terms of sector development, is no longer the same in comparison to the reality of the 90´s, when this sector took the “first steps” in Portugal. Additionally, the approach to this sector it´s not advisable to be made by isolating the different areas involved: the sport, the environment and the tourism. Accordingly, the work here presented intends to reflect the importance of the relationship between the concepts associated with the sport, the environment and the tourism. A review of scientific studies was conducted focusing on the state of the art, and identifying some of the major authors and issues studied in this context. The choice of approaches to the problematics of the nature based sport, sport and environment and active sport and tourism, in order to verify their interrelationships and their potential as subsector of development and sustainability, allows in our view, to reflect and project the future on this (still) new reality in our country.
