| Abstract | The quantum regime of nanomechanical resonators in an opto-electromechanical setup is investigated theoretically. The central novel aspect in this thesis is an intrinsic mechanical nonlinearity, that is enhanced by gradient forces and employed to control the mechanical motion at the single phonon level. This is demonstrated by introducing schemes for the preparation of nonclassical steady states for the mechanical motion, as well as quantum information processing with nanomechanical qubits. |
