| Abstract | The objective of this article is to analyse the process of crea- tion of the first royal academies in Spain, their origins as informal gatherings and the intellectual context, marked by the movement of the novatores, in which they appeared. An endeavour is also made to explore the configuration and the role played by these institutions of sociability, whose characteristic traits were social integration and equal treatment among individuals. |
