| Abstract | This study aimed to survey the ichthyofauna and some aspects of the ecology of the fish community of a Capivari River stretch, a tributary of the Paraguacu River whose the source is located in the Castro Alves City and its mouth in the Sao Felix region, Bahia. Along the stretch between the source and Cruz das Almas five sampling points were determined. One thousand and sixty-four specimens were captured, distributed in 4 orders, 6 families, 6 genera and 9 species. Characiformes was the order more representative, with 5 species collected. The most abundant species were Poecilia reticulata, who representing 40.6% of specimens captured, followed by Astyanax sp. 1, with 34.6%. The ichthyofauna of this stretch was represented by few and small species, whose main source of food items is of allochthonous origin. The richness and diversity were low in three of the five points. Those points also showed high levels of dominance. The high abundance of P. reticulata, a species known to be resistant to changing environments, corroborate the information obtained in other studies that the river Capivari is degraded. Key word: fish, ecology, diversity, Paraguacu Basin, river Capivari. |
