| Abstract | Traumatic ulcers are acute or chronic lesions of the oral mucosa. They are caused by mechanical trauma such as hard food, accidental bites during chewing conversation or even during sleep and excessive forces of brushing. Usually the treatment of these lesions is based on improving the wound healing and relieving the pain with drugs as steroids or anesthetics. Recently, low-intensity laser therapy can be an alternative for treatment, because it accelerates wound healing and reduces pain. Patients usually report reduction of pain just after the first session of laser irradiation. The aim of this case series is to present the treatment of lesions such as aphtous ulcers and angular cheilitis with low-intensity laser therapy. Three patients received low-level red laser irradiation (660 nm, InGaAlP, 30 mW and 40 J/cm2), in a punctual mode (37s /point), in a single session. Immediately after laser irradiation, all patients reported reduction of pain. Also the treatment enhanced the wound healing time. In conclusion, the treatment of oral lesions with low-intensity laser therapy is a good alternative to reduce the symptoms and accelerate wound healing.
