| Abstract | This text presents an extensive panorama of the restoration handbooks for traditional architecture in their several variants such as guide, practical guide, manual, handbook, atlas, etc. The article defines and gives detailed examples of all these types of handbooks, with their advantages and disadvantages, mainly in three countries, that is to say, Spain, Italy and Great Britain. The authors expose their experience in the field as writers of two handbooks of architectural restoration, both with divulgative and technical character. Besides, a future perspective for this type of publications is given. Indeed, these books have a lot of demand due to the necessity of knowing examples of employed techniques in real restorations and their results that may transmit confidence through the power of example, the experience and the know–how. |
