| Abstract | I N recent years essential hyperlipemia has been subdivided into two clinical entities: fat-induced hypertriglyceridemia and carbohydrate-induced ‘ Although carbohydrate-induced hypertriglyceridemia is by far the more common variety, no comparison has been made of the effect of different carbohydrates in the induction of hypertriglyceridemia in this entity. In view of the reports2’3 that the feeding of sucrose instead of starch in normal human subjects leads to higher serum triglyceride and serum cholesterol levels, we thought it would be interesting to study the effect of such an interchange in patients with carbohydrate-induced hypertriglyceridemia. The marked differences found in the serum lipid responses of these patients to the different carbohydrate diets have been referred to4 and are presented in detail here. |
