| Abstract | The introduction of biodiesel fuel in the Brazilian energy matrix has been bringing positive impact to the country’s development, not only because of reducing of dependence on fossil fuels, but also because of being a clean and renewable source that is capable of generating employment and income for rural communities. It’s desirable producing biodiesel using ethanol and the reason is that the fuel is 100% renewable in contrast to methanol that is derived from non-renewable sources. Its disadvantage comparing to methyl route is that ethyl esters have a good connection to glycerin hindering the separation of the glycerin from the biodiesel decreasing efficiency production. This present work consisted to produce biodiesel using ethyl route by acid neutralization of the transesterification and by distillation to recovery the excess ethanol. The ethyl biodiesel production by alkaline catalysis (potassium hydroxide) offered efficiency approximately to 33%. Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis confirmed that the transesterification of the soya oil was completed. . |
