| Abstract | This paper provides two primary contributions: A measurement study of content delivery via content distribution networks for hosts that use remote DNS services (e.g., Google’s DNS server, or OpenDNS), and a client-side application that improves delivery to such clients. The authors make the case that remote DNS usage is increasing, and demonstrate that use of remote DNS services can significantly impact client web download times, as clients are mapped to far-away CDN servers. The authors then address this with a client-side DNS proxy that uses remote a remote DNS server but additionally re-queries the CDN to find the best local server. |
