| Abstract | A large number of soil samples from the Iberian Peninsula and Caucasus are studied. This paper also includes a bibliographical synopsis of all the previous records on these rgions, and a systematic checklist with 1.328 species are given. 869 of them are iberian and 910 are caucasian. 39 species are new records for the Iberian Peninsula, and 88 are new records for the Caucasus; also two new names, three new synonymies and a new combination are given: Sellnickochthonius chinonei n. nom., Oribatella (Multoribatella) pseudonigra n. nom., Phthiracarus (Archiphthiracarus) stramineus (Koch, 1841) (=Phthiracarus malagensis Niedbala, 1986 n. sin.), Hafenferrefia nevesi (Sellnick, 1952) (=Hafenrefferiella hyrcanica Krivolutsky, 1967 n. sin.), Anachipteria (A.) howardi (Berlese, 1908) (=Oribata perisi Mihelcic, 1956 n. sin.) and Macrogena (M.) minor (Subias, Kahwash and Ruiz, 1990) n. comb. The genera and subgenera: Neoctenacarus Moritz, 1974, Neobrachychthonius Moritz, 1976, Pterochthonius Berlese, 1913, Paratritia Moritz, 1966, Nanhermannia (Nippohermannia) P. Balogh, 1985, Parabelbella (Tectodamaeus) Aoki, 1984, Subbelba BulanovaZachvatkina, 1967, Berndamerus Mahunka, 1977 and Suctobelbila Jacot, 1937, are recorded for the first time in Caucasus. The family Parhypochthoniidae Grandjean, 1932, with its genus Parhypochthonius Berlese, 1984, and the genera Reptacarus Perez-Inigo and Pena, 1995, Tectoribates Berlese, 1910 and Macrogena Wallwork, 1966, are recorded for the first time in the Iberian Peninsula. From the geographical study we concluded that near the half of the species, 451, are common to both regions with a high number of species of wide distribution, the same that species of endemic and mediterranean distribution. |
