| Abstract | With the objective to increase the frequency of favorable allele and to estimate the genetic and phenotypics parameters of some characteristics, the population of maize CMS 14 was subjected to the fi rst cycle of selection between and inside prohenies of half brothers. Two hundred progenies were evaluated in two simple látice 10 x 10. The used spacing was of 1.0m x 0.40m, for plots of 5.2m with 26 plants and a density of 50.000 plants for hectare. Highly signifi cant differences were detected between the progenies for the evaluated characters indicating the presence of genetic variability. The high estimates of the genetic parameters for production of grains, like the genetic additive variance [1028.77 (g/plant)2], coeffi cient of heritability (64.0%) and b coeffi cient (1.03), associated to the high average of productivity of the progenies are indicating of the great potential 1 Aprovado para publicação em 16.02.2006 2 Engenheiro Agrônomo, M.Sc., Pesquisador da Embrapa Amapá.
