| Abstract | In vitro comparison of the antibacterial effect between sodium hypochlorite and the hydroethanolic extract of propolis against Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212. The effect was evaluated in 5 groups distributed in concentrations of 100%, 50% and 25% of the hydroethanolic extract of propolis and hypochlorite of sodium at 5% and 3%. Five repetitions were made per experimental group. Bacterial sensitivity was evaluated using the Kirby-Bauer method. The bacterial specimen was reactivated in nutritious broth, to inoculate it in heart agar culture. When facing the microorganism to the hydroethanolic extracts, average inhibition halos of 7.3 mm were obtained for propolis at 100% and 10.05 mm for 5% sodium hypochlorite. It is concluded that the hydroetanolic extract of propolis 100% showed no sensitivity and 5% sodium hypochlorite showed limit sensitivity on E. faecalis ATCC 29212 |
