| Abstract | Unlike 19th-century historical narrative, Spanish contemporary novel set in the Middle Ages is open to the presence of the supernatural, usually through different magical and religious objects. In parallel, the attention attracted by popular genres and the appearance in the literary scene of writers from other cultural spheres, such as comics or role-playing games, are the origin of numerous mixed books in which historical reconstruction is associated with science fiction or fantasy topics. Both types of works, even if they may challenge the documentary or didactic value of historical narrative, explore new narrative paths, and at the same time they offer a view of the past events closer to the one probably held by medieval man. |
