| Abstract | This paper evaluates aircraft impact survivability based on a literature review and dynamic impact tests. Commercial aircraft are considered, but the focus is small fixed wing and General Aviation (GA) aircraft. Aortic injury is evaluated as it relates to the aircraft impact environment. Dynamic tests using standard and the AmSafe Aviation Inflatable Restraint (AAIR) are evaluated. The results are presented with the objectives of gaining perspective, drawing conclusions, and making recommendations for improved survivability. |
