Abstract	In recent years, fishermen from the district of Challhuahuacho, Apurímac, have seen a significant decrease in the number of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in relation to previous years. The people is concerned about the possible contamination that may be generated by the mining activity from "Las Bambas" project in Challhuahuacho River. The objective of the study was to analyze the water quality of the Challhuahuacho river, the concentration of heavy metals in the muscle of the rainbow trout and the relationship of those with stress levels. For the study, four monitoring geographical points were considered. Water samples were taken to analyze physicochemical parameters such as pH, temperature dissolved oxygen, conductivity , olis and fats, biochemical oxygen demand, total phosphorus, sulfur, ammonia, nitrate chromium IV; heavy metal such as Sb, As, Ba, Cd, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, Se, Ti and Zn; and total coliforms. Samples of rainbow trout muscle were taken for the four point in order to determine the concentration of heavy metals such as As, Cd, Hg and Pb. Finally blood samples were taken from these animals to determine the concentration of plasmatic cortisol. The water was analyzed in the SGS Labs in Lima, the results showed that the physicochemical parameters, the concentrations of thermotolerant coliforms, and the concentrations of heavy metals in Challhuahuacho river water do not show a risk for the balance of the aquatic ecosystem. Then, in 37 captured rainbow trout, concentrations of heavy metals in those trout muscle were found below the Maximum Allowed
