| Abstract | Nesting of birds bring with them a wealth and diversity of mites, comprising predatory mites, phytophagous and generalists.Knowledge and understanding of these organisms are important for future studies of biological control of mite pests from natural predators may contribute to minimize high infestations, preventing ectoparasites become a health and economic problem. This study aimed to understand the diversity of mites associated with nests of wild birds, correlate with ecological variables of the municipality of Sao Sepe, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil environments. The bird nests were collected in areas, urban and rural, in the forest environment, countryside, water, orchards and residential, between the months of August to December 2012. The nests collected were placed in Berlese funnel for extraction of dust mites and preserved in 70% alcohol.Assembly was performed on slides in Hoyer medium. The identification was performed at the Laboratory of Acarology UNIVATES the University Center.A total of 52 nests of birds, belonging to 25 species were sampled birds and found a total of 24,287 mites belonging to 34 families, 70 species, in addition to those of the suborder Oribatida. The Shannon diversity (H ') was higher in the environment field of rural area (H' = 1.91), followed by residential (H '= 1.88). The total diversity occurred in the rural area on the field (TD = 48.67) and forest (TD = 23.75).The evenness was very close in the rural area in two aquatic environments (ED = 0.83) and forest (ED = 0.80). Greatest richness occurred in a rural area in a field environment (1.8) and residential (1.7). In the urban environment all showed the same richness (0.8). |
