| Abstract | EnglishSince Athanase Peltier, in 1840, physicists, meteorologists, and climatologists have shown an interest for tornadoes in France, especially in the second half of the 19th century and since the end of the 20th century. The association Climat-Energie-Environnement has established a database, presently containing 525 cases collected in France since 1680, enabling scientists to propose a climatology of the phenomenon. The present study focuses on the spectacular manifestations of tornadoes, including the noise surrounding the incoming meteor, the removal of water, persons, animals, and objects upon its passage, the projection of various materials, and, finally, the damages due to the effects of the excess of pressure.This study reveals the evolution of observations, along that of physics and meteorology, and it will be useful for the classification of the intensity of tornadoes on the improved Fujita scale, as well as for the knowledge of risks incurred on the metropolitan territory. francaisLa composition isotopique des precipitations est utilisee depuis longtemps pour reconstruire la variabilite climatique passee a partir de sa conservation dans des archives comme les glaciers, les speleothemes, etc. Elle permet aussi d'aborder et de decortiquer des mecanismes qui regissent le climat present. La mise sur le marche d'une nouvelle technique a permis d'etendre les mesures isotopiques sur la phase vapeur et d'acceder a une information continue dans le temps. A travers divers exemples choisis sur des terrains varies, des regions polaires aux tropiques, cet article illustre le potentiel de la composition isotopique de la vapeur d'eau en surface, en regard de donnees meteorologiques plus classiques, pour etudier des processus aussi divers que le melange de masses d'air, l'origine de la vapeur d'eau, la structure, l'intensite et l'organisation de la convection, la formation et la dissipation des nappes de brouillard et la circulation atmospherique a differentes echelles de temps. |
