| Abstract | INTRODUCTION: Head Injury has been defined as, "a morbid state, resulting from gross or subtle structural changes in the scalp, skull, and/or the contents of skull, produced by mechanical forces". MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this retrospective study, all the fatal head injury cases due to road traffic accident, brought for post-mortem examination at mortuary of Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences, Mandya District, Karnataka, India, between 2008 to 2012 were studied. During this study several epidemiological observations and their results were considered. RESULTS: Total number of autopsies done in the last five years was 492. RTA constitutes 63% ( 310 cases). CONCLUSIONS: To be effective, policies on injury prevention and safety in developing countries must be based on local evidence and research, and designed to suit the social, political, and economic circumstances found in developing countries. |
