| Abstract | In the recent years, Internet research community has paid special attention to the distribution of multimedia traffic over multicast IP networks. The topics of research have been revolving around effectively coping with the challenges in real-time media applications such as heterogeneity, fairness, and quality of service. In this paper, we present an analytical solution to rate allocation and receiver partitioning problems in layered and replicated media systems within the context of Layered Media Multicast Control (LMMC) protocol. LMMC determines the layer rates and the corresponding partitioning of the receivers maximizing an approximation of the so-called max-min fairness metric. |
