| Abstract | The main objective of this thesis is the classification of microcalcifications found in MIAS (Mammographic Image Analysis Society) data base into 2 groups, which were: benignant and malignant, based on Le Gal?s classification presented on 1984. First of all, it was necessary to binarize each microcalcification independently using histogram analysis and Otsu?s method. The resultant image was analyzed through the next morphological descriptors: Hu?s Moments, Eccentricity, Signature, Compactness, Area and Ramifications; this information becomes in the input vector of a Neural Network (Backpropagation) as a automated classifier. The number of samples used as experimental tests to validate the hypothesis proposed in this work was obtained using the determination of minimum samples of experimental observations, obviating the data?s variance estimates. The results were compare with Medical diagnosis made by Radiologist, which true positives, true negatives, false positives and false negatives are obtained to analyzed the performance of this classification algorithm using sensitivity and specificity. |
