| Abstract | Duplex stainless steels are materials widely used in the industrial sector and in other diverse applications due to their high mechanical resistance and corrosion. Its microstructure consists of two distinct phases, ferrite and austenite. The present study aimed to show the effects of the process control agent (PCA) among the most common and indicated for high energy mechanical milling. Machining chips were obtained from UNS S31803 / SAF 2205 steel. For the milling, vanadium carbide at 3 wt% was added, and the following PCAs were used: Stearic Acid, Methanol, and Hexane, at 1 and 3 wt% of each PCA, respectively. The millings were standardized for analyzes in the times of 30h, 40h, and 50h. In order to make comparisons, milling without PCA addition was also performed. Samples were obtained in powders to verify the milling efficiency. Twenty-one samples, with the percentage of process control agent and the time of milling as variables, were analyzed mainly by the size of particles, X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. At the end of the study, it was observed by Sample 16 (1% Stearic Acid 50 hours), that the most efficient PCA within the proposed period of hours is Stearic Acid and through Sample 21 (3% Hexane 50 hours) can Hexane is the least efficient of the PCA's studied. |
