| Abstract | The role of financial information on the competitiveness and transparency of an organization's operations (Escobar-Vaquiro, Benavides-Franco and Perafan-Pena, 2016) makes it necessary for micro, small and medium enterprises to leverage decision-making in the analysis of this information, and this is possible through the means of business intelligence (Ahumada and Perusquia, 2016). Therefore, it was considered as a guiding question of the research to identify: What is the incidence of financial information for business intelligence in SMEs? To answer this question, the document was developed based on a qualitative methodology based on a documentary review. In this way, various academic and institutional documents were taken into account, compiled through free and subscription databases. The specific objectives were: to describe the practices related to business intelligence for SMEs, to identify the role of financial information for business intelligence processes in SMEs and to establish determinants of financial information necessary for SMEs to perform intelligence of business. So the document was structured in four parts: initially, the competitive context of SMEs in Colombia is provided, the second section presents the relationship between financial information and decision making, viewing this as a component of intelligence of business in a society that requires applying knowledge, in this way the third section moves the practices of business intelligence to the context of SMEs, to finally determine in a fourth section, what would be the role of financial information that makes this type of business more competitive and strengthens its internal decision-making processes. The investigation allowed to conclude on the need for SMEs to have timely, reliable and up-to-date information in order to evaluate the aspects that work satisfactorily and to identify conflicting areas and that merit a more detailed analysis and a decision. In this sense, it is determined that SMEs must have adequate organization, processing and management of financial information, which facilitates the generation of specific historical reports, which serve as a basis for analyzing and issuing judgments about trends in the market, possible changes in consumer preferences, entry of new competitors, between others. |
