| Abstract | The objective was to analyze the association of factors socio-demographic, reproductive, health habits and disease history with breast cancer in women of Joinville (SC), Brazil. Patients with breast cancer in a reference center for treatment of the disease and selected a control of the neighborhood and a control of the health care, age-matched, were interviewed. Crude and adjusted Odds Ratio were performed by logistic regression. One hundred seventy cases and 340 controls were evaluated, and there was no difference in mean age between groups. When compared to controls neighbors, cases were more likely to: do not perform paid activity, situation of misery, shorter duration of breastfeeding, more abortions and menopause. Among controls of the health care, the incident of abortion, the use of pill and/or injection, alcoholic consumption, high consumption of fatty foods and breast cancer in the family differed in relation to cases. Important differences were observed as for the type of analyzed control and the variables associated with breast cancer. |
