| Abstract | The Hennaya plain, located in the north of Tlemcen city, characterized by the semi-arid climate, whose current hydrous resources are relatively limited consist of underground water of the Mio-Plio-Quaternary aquifer, laterally driven by Tlemcen’s dolomites. In recent years a high level of water demand was felt due to remarquable increase water for agriculture use. On one hand, this has induced a shortage of water and a deterioration of its quality on the other. This research project comes to shed more light on the spatial and temporal variation in the quality of groundwater for irrigation purposes. Groundwater in the study plain, have fairly high concentrations analyzed for some chemical elements such as Calcium, Magnesium, the chlorides and bicarbonates, and this for both analytical field excursions (1981 and 2011) and exceed the drinking water standards set by WHO . The estimation of the quality of groundwater for irrigation by the use of indices ( IEB , MG , PI, KR , MH, N% , Wilcox , ...) demonstrates that the wells of the plain Hennaya for both field excursionsis classified into categories ( very good, good and qualifies for irrigation). An improvement of water quality for irrigation is noted on iso-values maps for the 2011 field excursion, for the conductivity and chlorides, as irrigation index, while deterioration for other indexes, such as, sulfates and MR, requiring constant monitoring of chemical elements involved. |
