| Abstract | We present a new method for measuring the ratios of photoelastic coefficients using Schaefer-Bergmann diffraction. We demonstrate our technique for isotropic fused silica and the trigonal crystal α-BaB2O4. The measured results for fused silica agree with the known values to within 0.4%. For α-BaB2O4, we compare our Schaefer-Bergmann diffraction results by measuring the photoelastic coefficients with the established Dixon method. c © 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.
