| Abstract | 1 RESUMO Um fator de extrema importância na producao da cultura do milho e o suprimento de agua, que pode ser realizado via irrigacao e influenciado pela cobertura morta do solo. Com isso, este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a influencia da irrigacao e cobertura morta do solo sobre as caracteristicas agronomicas e a produtividade de forragem de milho. O experimento foi conduzido em na Fazenda de Ensino e Pesquisa da Universidade Camilo Castelo Branco, Campus de Fernandopolis - SP. Para avaliar a influencia da irrigacao e cobertura morta do solo sobre as caracteristicas agronomicas do milho, foi implantado um experimento fatorial 4 x 5 em faixas, sendo os tratamentos principais constituidos de 4 niveis de reposicao de agua via irrigacao (L) em funcao da evapotranspiracao da cultura (100, 78, 74 e 45% da ETc) e 5 niveis de cobertura morta (C) sobre o solo (0, 1,93, 3,85, 5,80 e 7,70 t ha -1 de palhada), com 3 repeticoes. De acordo com os resultados, - Para o cultivo de milho safrinha na regiao Noroeste do Estado de Sao Paulo, recomenda-se para a obtencao da maior produtividade de materia seca de forragem com graos (23,6 t ha -1 ), irrigacao com reposicao de 100% da evapotranspiracao da cultura em sistema de plantio direto com uma quantidade inicial de palhada de 7,7 t ha -1 . Nestas condicoes, esperam-se valores de alturas de plantas de 1,51 m, alturas de insercao de primeira espiga de 0,42 m e diâmetro de colmos de 13,0 mm. T his study aimed to evaluate the influence of irrigation and mulch on agronomic traits forage yield of corn . The experiment was conducted on the Farm of Camilo Castelo Branco University, Campus of Fernandopolis - SP . To evaluate the influence of irrigation and mulch on agronomic traits of corn , was deployed a 4 x 5 factorial experiment tracks, the main treatments consisted of four levels of water replacement by irrigation ( L) as a function of crop evapotranspiration (100 , 78, 74 and 45 % ETc) and five levels of mulch ( C) on the soil (0 , 1.93, 3.83, 5.80 and 7.70 for t -1 straw ), with three replications. According to the results for the cultivation of maize in the northwest region of Sao Paulo, it is recommended to obtain higher dry matter yields of forage with grain (23.6 t ha-1), irrigation with replacement 100% of crop evapotranspiration in no-till systems with an initial amount of straw 7.7 t ha-1. In these conditions, we expect values of plant height of 1.51m, insertion height of the first spike of 0.42 m and stems diameter of 13.0 mm.
